    But today? When the AARP stands to profit millions from cuts that will expand the market for the supplemental insurance policies they now offer?Well, suddenly the AARPs tune has changed.

    In 2005 the AARP opposed Medicare cuts that were an effort to make that nearly insolvent entitlement boondoggle a little bit more solvent. In 1995 the AARP opposed similar efforts and in 1993 when $53 billion in Medicare cuts were proposed for the purposes of deficit reduction the AARP said they would be devastating.

    Recently the AARP came out in favor of the Democrat efforts to essentially nationalize health care despite that bill having heavy cuts to Medicare in it. But its worth noting that in other instances, where the AARP doesnt stand to profit so much as a group as they do now, the group opposed Medicare cuts.
